Living the dream

55go-confidently-in-the-direction-of-your-dreams-live-the-life-you-ve-imagined-postersLooking to my right this morning I saw a sleep teenager eating her breakfast in the van as I navigated the familiar route of stop lights and u-turns that are so much of my traffic pattern the past few years. It was the first of four round trips I will make to her school today. Each trip includes 6 stop lights, 2 u-turns and a student parking lot to negotiate. One of today’s trips will add an additional 14 stop lights, 1 shopping center parking lot and chicken udon soup. The second part of that trip will be the twice weekly race to community college and back.

As I was running through my day in my head, I realized how much is structured around getting her where she needs to be and making sure she has what she needs. This is my day job. And I love it.

I love taking care of my husband who works hard to make it possible for me to be available to support her as she juggles high school and college and marching band and a social life. I love having a home that needs my attention and reflects my personality and that they love coming back to at the end of their days.

I love getting to write and read and create and encourage and mentor and teach and bake and garden and….and…and…

While I was typing this up, she sent me a text message asking me to bring her college text-book with me when I pick her up. She left it on her desk when she was studying last night.

No, I haven’t had my shower yet this morning but I have had coffee. My favorite person in the whole wide world is getting ready for work. He gets up early, makes coffee, watches a little of the morning news with me before I take favorite teen to school and I pack his lunch when I get back.

I don’t know what your dream looks like to you but I am living mine. I hope today you find yourself closer to living your dream than you did yesterday.

If you need a little help making your dream reality, let me know. I’d love to help you.
